Shiv Nadar Schools

Overview

Shiv Nadar Schools are world-class K-12 educational institutions founded by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. These schools provide a holistic learning environment that blends rigorous academics with a strong emphasis on values, creativity, and global citizenship.

As part of the SPC Initiative, three Shiv Nadar School campuses are working toward Fairtrade School Designation, embedding ethical consumption and sustainability into the life of the school community.

Why Shiv Nadar Schools?

These schools bring distinct advantages to the Fairtrade programme:

  • Innovation culture — emphasis on inquiry-based learning translates well to Fairtrade research projects
  • Urban location — proximity to suppliers, retailers, and civil society organisations
  • Diverse student body — mix of backgrounds creates rich discussions about global inequality
  • Strong parent community — engaged families support school-wide policy changes

Flagship Initiative: Fairtrade Canteen Programme

Shiv Nadar Schools are piloting the Fairtrade Canteen Programme, which aims to:

  1. Audit all current canteen products against Fairtrade availability
  2. Switch at least three product lines to Fairtrade-certified alternatives
  3. Create transparent labelling and information boards for students
  4. Measure and communicate the social impact of purchasing decisions

Student Leadership

Each campus has formed a Fairtrade Student Council — a representative body of students from Classes 8–12 who lead:

  • Awareness campaigns
  • Research into supply chains
  • Peer education sessions
  • Communication with suppliers
