VidyaGyan Leadership Academies

Overview

VidyaGyan Leadership Academies are flagship residential schools established by the Shiv Nadar Foundation to provide world-class education to high-potential students from economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds across Uttar Pradesh and beyond. The academies combine rigorous academics, leadership development, and deep values formation.

VidyaGyan's participation in the Fairtrade initiative represents a natural extension of its founding vision: to develop ethical, globally-aware leaders who understand the systems that shape the world — including production, trade, and consumption.

Fairtrade Journey

VidyaGyan academies began their Fairtrade journey in January 2025 following selection as partner institutions for the SPC project.

Unique Strengths

The VidyaGyan model brings distinctive advantages to the Fairtrade programme:

  • Deep community roots — students come from farming and artisan communities, giving them lived understanding of fair trade's relevance
  • Residential setting — 24/7 campus life enables comprehensive embedding of sustainability practices
  • Leadership curriculum — existing leadership modules can seamlessly integrate Fairtrade frameworks
  • Alumni network — VidyaGyan graduates in top colleges become Fairtrade ambassadors

Key Initiatives

1. From Farm to Table

Students at Sitapur have launched an initiative tracing the journey of food products from farm to canteen table, documenting fair and unfair trade practices along the way.

2. Artisan Connect

In partnership with HCL Trust My E-Haat, VidyaGyan Bulandshahr students are connecting with local artisans, documenting their stories, and advocating for fair pricing.

3. Green Campus Challenge

All three campuses are competing in a Green Campus Challenge — measuring reductions in carbon footprint, plastic use, and food waste.
